Tatiana Velazquez
Art
is what separates us from beast. The more innovative the canvas the
more dimensional the piece. Tatiana Velazquez offers up some
creative expression. Her artwork explodes both visually and on an
emotional level. The connection between creation and expansion lives
in her work.
1.
When did you start painting?
I've always been a creative soul, but started meddling with paints
around the age of 14. I didn't truly use it as therapeutic
expression until 19. I played with oil on canvas, as well as spray
paint on cardboard, or whatever large surface I'd find along the
side of the road. I was trying to find my niche with my creativity,
still don't now if I've solidified that or ever will. It is a
constant growth. I started exploring the art community a couple
years ago thanks to the encouragement of close friends, so I'm
fairly new to the scene.
2. What inspires you?
It sounds cliché, but all aspects of life are my inspiration.
Nature, family, philosophy-- I like to philosophize asking the great
question "why", somehow unraveling little mysteries for myself.
Moods inspire me, as well as dreams(dreams sometimes the cause of
moods). I definitely dream through my art. When I take photos I try
to capture the exact moment and frame I see with my eyes.
Perspective says plenty and capturing it helps you notice what you
notice. It can lead to a better understanding of oneself.
3.Who are your strongest influences?
I loved Picasso's work at a very young age. My parents had a framed
"Guernica" print I would stare at and try to decipher. Around 14, my
uncle, who is also a painter, gave me my first set of acrylics. I
was fond of Van Gogh and would imitate the style of his
impressionist "Starry Night." Dali, of course, blows me away. I have
a piece called "Ode to Dali's 'Ants'." Also, my peers are great
influences. I'm surrounded by lots of talented musicians and
artists. I have high expectations of myself because I have plenty to
live up to. I aim to make the best of my potential.
4.Artistic Goals?
I never create anything with an audience/viewer in mind. I take
advantage of moments or feelings, and the outcome is what it is. I
took one paint class and find my stubborn self still painting how I
do/feel. The class drove me crazy because they set some boundaries
and I followed them, but I want to grow as an artist through my own
discovery. Trial and error. Beauty often lies in its flaws and
perfection isn't always exciting. My goal is simply to grow with my
art.
5.Self age and interest?
At 26, I have the itch to find expression through different avenues
be it music, painting, photography, cooking, or film. When I can't
find inspiration to outlet through one, I explore another that might
be more fitting to the need.
6.what inspires you on that type of art?
Most of the time my art is my therapy and my time to check out from
the world. I get lost in the paintings and try to look beyond the
canvas. It sometimes becomes a trancelike state and I don't even
realize what I've done till the next morning when I walk out of my
room with fresh eyes. I always feel an urgent need to be creative
and find ways to tackle the obsession. I'm inspired by the thought
of discovery by doing and capturing. I have a series of 50+ mixed
media vinyl record pieces showcasing subjects of my photography, and
have been most recently building a painted series of 3-eyed Oracles.
